This is the family member information center for the Antrum-Bacote-King Families and its National and State Reunion Committees. The association just had its 32nd Annual Reunion under the direction of the Michigan Chapter.
The 32nd was fun and wait until the 33rd!
The 32nd ABK Family Reunion was held in Dearborn, MI May 28 – 30, 2010.
There were 57 in attendance representing 13 states: Connecticut, Washington, DC, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The reunion started on Friday afternoon with registration, hospitality, and the states meeting. Don’t forget that Valerie Luckey-Merrit has volunteered to put together photos to go with the written genealogy. Valerie’s email is Luckey2doee@yahoo.com . We also want more participation from our younger family members. Please try to get them to attend future reunions and participate on the state committees.
Registration continued on Saturday morning. During the day, attendees were on their own. Most of us did not know there was so much to see and do in the Detroit area. The Motown Museum was great. We had a fantastic tour guide that told the Motown story. The Charles Wright African American Museum was wonderful and there was so much at the Ford Museums, it was hard to see it all! Choir rehearsal was Saturday afternoon followed by the banquet.
We had a surprise speaker for the banquet. Andre Johnson introduced the speaker and lo and behold it turned out to be him! After dinner we divided into teams and played Taboo.
The reunion concluded Sunday morning with the church service. The ABK Choir provided music. Our own Minister Della Bacote did the sermon. Her topic was The Phenomenal Family.
We want to thank the Michigan committee; Andre’, Stephanie, Alexandra, Elliott, Lauren Johnson and Charles Bacote for seeing that we had a good time.
Remember the union survey and the most requested location for a reunion? Well next year's reunion will be in the number one requested location, Orlando, Florida. Lloyd (Roy) and Judith Alford will be chairing the event. They have already begun planning so that we will have a grand time. And yes, they are building in time so that you can go to the parks. Check the web site often for updates. You can contact the Alfords by email, lloyalf@cox.net . We hope to see you all there!
